If you spend time on two floors, carrying a complete changing kit up and down can become an unnecessary task. A second supply point does not have to mean buying a second changing table. It means choosing a suitable place to change the baby and keeping the supplies you need nearby.
Consider your own movement and comfort as well as the baby's safety. A floor-level arrangement may not be comfortable for someone recovering from birth. A raised changing surface needs to be suitable for the purpose and used according to its instructions. Ask your care provider about movements you are finding difficult rather than improvising around pain.
Stock for a change, not a showroom
Keep diapers in the size currently used, the cleaning supplies you have chosen, spare clothing and a place for soiled items. Arrange them so that you can reach everything before starting. The Public Health Agency of Canada advises keeping a hand on a baby on a changing table. Never leave the baby unattended on a raised surface to fetch an item.
If something is missing, move the baby to a safe place before retrieving it. A second container of supplies is only helpful when it is stocked; an empty basket beside the table gives a false sense of readiness.
Keep bags, creams and small items out of children's reach. A nearby bin should not block the path or depend on balancing a full bag against the furniture. Think about an older sibling who may investigate the new station, not only the adult using it.
Give restocking a predictable moment
Ask whoever completes the evening household reset to check both areas. Replenish a modest amount rather than storing the entire supply on each floor. Put outgrown diapers and clothing aside so they do not continue to occupy the most accessible space.
Show helpers both locations, including where used clothing goes and how the changing surface is cleaned. If the downstairs area is being used much more often, move supplies accordingly. You may eventually need only one station. Let the arrangement follow where you spend time rather than keeping a second setup simply because you prepared it before birth.
